History

Tirumangaiazhwar (One of the 12 Alwars – 7th to 10th Centuries CE) and Manavala Mamunigal have sung hymns of Divya Prabhandham here at Thiruvanpurushothamam Thirunangoor in praise of the Lord. Thiruvanpurushothamam Thirunangoor temple has been mentioned in the Parasavana Puranam.

Legend

The Purushothama name for the lord is said to have occured here at Thiruvanpurushothamam Thirunangoor first. Sage Vyagrapadar is believed to have worshipped the lord and received progeny here at Thiruvanpurushothamam Thirunangoor. The child, Upamanyu, was alone at home one day, crying with hunger and the goddess went to feed him.
