Ariyalur district encompasses an area of approximately 1,949.31 sq.km. Ariyalur is noted for its cement industries and has huge reserves of lignite. The area is generally dry and not much in the way of landscape or great beauty. In all Ariyalur district temples, the most beautiful sight is the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple. Ariyalur Railway Station is on the Chennai to Tiruchirapalli chord line and can be approached by road from many routes.
