Kuranganilmuttam is a small west facing temple with 2 Prakarams. The Temple Tank is adjoining and in the north of the temple. The Lingam is small in size and the Sanctum sanctorum is also small. The Goddess shrine was outside the main temple and was later moved to its present location. There is a Rock Temple a short distance away from Kuranganilmuttam.

History

Thirugnanasambandar (7th Century CE) has visited and sung hymns for the Lord here at Kuranganilmuttam. Inscriptions found here mention the temple as Kaaliyoor Kottathu Irukazhi Naattu Mamandoor Patrathu Pallavapuramana Kuranganilmuttam and the lord’s name as Thiru Kuranganilmuttamudaya Nayanar and Koyyamalar Easwara Devar. Krishnadeva Raya is mentioned to have donated the village of Pallavapuram to this temple for the purpose of maintenance in an inscription dated around 1451 CE.

Legend

The Lord here at Kuranganilmuttam is believed to have been worshiped by Vaali(in the form of a Monkey – Kurangu), Indra (in the form of a Squirrel – Anil) and Yama (in the form of a Crow – Muttam). Hence the name of the place is Kurangu Anil Muttam – Kuranganilmuttam.

Directions

Kuranganilmuttam is 2 kilometers south-east of Dusi, which is about 8 kilometers south of Kanchipuram in the Vandavasi Road.

None locally except tea shops at the Dusi Junction. Closest is Kancheepuram for food and stay.
