Thirukadambur Amirthakadeswarar Temple is an east facing temple with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum is supported in the base by a chariot like structure with wheels. A wonderful sculpture of Lord Shiva with Parvati supported on his thigh is found here. Thirukadambur Amirthakadeswarar Temple has a single Prakaram and a temple tank to the north of the temple.

Lord Indra whose mother wanted to worship the lord here at Thirukadambur Amirthakadeswarar Temple was old and could not come. So Indra tried to move it as a chariot with horses ignoring to pray to Lord Ganesha first. He in turn fixed his right leg deep in the ground and held back the Sanctum Sanctorum. Thus the Ganesha here is seen slanting and so is the main deity.
Indra and Muruga are believed to have prayed here at Thirukadambur Amirthakadeswarar Temple and received their Amudakalasam and bow respectively from the Lord
