Lakshmi Narasimhar Poovarasankuppam is a small east facing temple and is very popular as it is one of the 8 temples where Lord Narasimha gave darshan fo the benefit of sages of the ancient times. The others are Singarikudi, Andhili, Parikkal, Sholingur, Namakkal, Singaperumal Kovil, Sindhalavadi. Lakshmi Narasimhar Poovarasankuppam is in the center of all these temples and thus considered important. Of these Parikkal, Poovarasankuppam and Singarkudi are set in a straight line. The goddess on the lap of the main deity is the same proportionate size and has one eye on the lord and another on the devotees.

History

Lakshmi Narasimhar Poovarasankuppam was built during the period of Narasimha Varma Pallava (7th Century CE).

Legend

Lakshmi Narasimhar Poovarasankuppam is one of the places where the lord appeared for the benefit of great sages after killing Hiranyakashipu. A Pallava king who had embraced Jainism was cursed by a sage called Narahari for tormenting Hindus. He is believed to have come here and seen the lord in the leaf of a Poovarasu Tree and was instructed by Sage Narahari to build a temple for the Lord.

Directions

While going from Vikravandi to Panruti, cross the Koliyanoor junction and at 6th kilometer take a left and drive for about 3 kilometers till Siruvanthadu, take a right and drive for another 3 kilometers to reach Lakshmi Narasimhar Poovarasankuppam. Stay and Food

None locally. There are some tea shops on the main road between Koliyanoor and Panruti. Stay could be Cuddalore or Villupuram depending on your itinerary.
