Aadaleeswarar Kayar is a small temple which has lost everything over time. What now remains, luckily, is the sanctum sanctorum, a few stone pillars with inscriptions and some broken idols. However it is heartening to know that some work is going on at present as we saw construction material around. A large and beautiful lotus pond is adjacent and behind this east facing temple. The ancient temple has been constructed with stone. The Goddess in a small shrine and Nandi seem to be recent additions. The main deity we learnt, though we could not see, has a square base (Aavudayar).

Aadaleeswarar Kayar has some inscriptions on stone pillars kept adjacent to the shrine and are said to belong to Adithya Chola’s period (871-907 CE). Needs further verification.

10 kilometers in the road going from Vandalur to Kelambakkam is Mambakkam. Take a right here and drive south for about 8 kilometers to reach Aadaleeswarar Kayar. The temple is tucked away into a narrow road. Refer our map for exact location.
