Kamakshi Amman Mangadu

Kamakshi Amman Mangadu is an east facing temple with a 7 tiered Rajagopuram in the south. There is an entrance in the east also. The temple has 2 Prakarams. In the Sanctum Sanctorum along with the idol of Kamakshi the Ardha Meru Maha Chakra has been installed by the great saint Aadhi Shankara. This is made of 8 Herbs, called Ashtagandham, and no ablution except with dry powders like Kumkum and Sandal is performed. The Chakra is made of 43 triangles and is one of the largest installed anywhere. it is adorned with a 9 yard Saree and is considered as the most important aspect of this temple. It is normally covered with a silver ornament except the last day of Navratri when it is covered with a gold ornament. The goddess is present here in 4 forms – As Sri Chakra, Aadhi Kamakshi made of Panchalakha Metals, Kamakshi performing penance amidst 5 Agni Kundas and a Lamp that burns always next to Aadhi Kamakshi. This beautiful and popular temple is always abuzz with activity, festivals and events.
