Varadaraja Perumal Tharuvai is a small temple with a single Prakaram. A Mahamantapam and Ardhamantapam are present before the Sanctum Sanctorum. In the Prakaram a Vilwam and Tamarind tree have grown joined as one. The Tamiraparani river flows behind Varadaraja Perumal Tharuvai.

Varadaraja Perumal Tharuvai has a lot of inscriptions all over the outer walls of the Sanctum Sanctorum indicating its antiquity. The details of these are not available as of now.
