Kodandaramar, Gandarvakottai is an east facing temple situated inside a single Prakaram. Lord Rama here is seen with his bow resting on the ground and goddess Mahalakshmi on his chest which is considered unique. One day in a year the Sun’s Rays are said to fall on the main deities feet through the opening in the Garuda Mantapa. Lord Anjaneya here faces south.

History
Kodandaramar, Gandarvakottai has symbols of Chola, Chera and Pandya kingdoms. According to Inscriptions, it was built by Gandaraditya Chola (955 CE) and he made some donations. Later contributions of the Thondaman Kings are also mentioned.
Legend
It is said that Gandaraditya Chola, after listening to various hymns and songs of bards praising Lord Rama, was captivated by them and decided to build this temple.
