Legend

In the olden days this area was filled with Kondrai (Indian Laburnum- Cassia fistula) trees. But the area was afflicted with disease, poverty and drought. An old milkman carrying his milk stumbled on a root stub and fell spilling the milk. This happened a number of times even when he took care to cross the path. He started digging the root stub with an axe when the ground seeped with blood and milk. He dug more and found the idol of the goddess. The people around gathered and miraculously it started raining. The idol was taken out and kept in a higher spot. The area prospered after the deity was first installed and a temple was later built.
