There are many stone inscriptions indicating the existence of Kailasanathar Pazhayanur from the ancient times. One of the three great saivite saints Thirugnanasambandar (7th century CE), while rendering his hymns for the lord at Thiruvalangadu is said to have done the same from here at Kailasanathar Pazhayanur.
Thirugnanasambandar who came to worship and sing hymns for Lord Shiva of Thiruvalangadu, stopped at Kailasanathar Pazhayanur, claiming that it is a sin if they tread on the Thiruvalangadu soil on which Karaikkal Ammayar walked on her head and hands. He is said to have sung their praises to the Lord from here at Kailasanathar Pazhayanur.
Just before reaching Tiruvalangadu from Thiruvallur take the road to the left with a sign board to reach Kailasanathar Pazhayanur temple.
