Aabathsahayeswarar Senthamangalam is a 13th century massive east facing temple with 3 Praharas. The Dakshinamoorthy is sitting on a Rishabam and Muruga here has six faces and six hands. The lingam here is large. There is an abandoned musical stone horse opposite on the bank of the temple tank which is said to give different musical notes when you strike in different places.

History

Aabathsahayeswarar Senthamangalam was part of the Kadava Chieftain Kopperunchingan Kadavarayan’s fort (who later became a King – reign.c. 1216–1242 CE). He converted it into a military stronghold and fought successfully against Kulothunga Chola III and Rajaraja Chola III, Hoysala kings and Jatavarman Sundara Pandyan. The temple is under the control of ASI and many stone inscriptions were found here after a long process of excavation. This is the historical place that saw the very last battle of the glorious Cholas after which the Chola Regime came to an end.
