Unlike other temples Valeeswarar Koliyanoor does not have a Rajagopuram and a Dwajasthambam (flag staff) intentionally.

History

Valeeswarar Koliyanoor was built between 6 and 7 th Century CE during the time of Narasimha Pallava. In 995 CE Rajaraja Chola renovated the temple.

Legend

The Lingam at Valeeswarar Koliyanoor is believed to have been worshiped by Vaali of the Ramayana. Hence the name of the lord. The Saneeswara idol facing south here is believed to have been installed by Vaali with the intention of the destruction of Raavana, the Demon King of Sri Lanka.

Directions

When going towards Villupuram from Tindivanam, take the left after Vikravandi and you will reach the Koliyanoor Junction. You can reach the Junction from Villupuram. Valeeswarar Koliyanoor is almost at the junction, slightly inside.
