Dhagamtheertha Pureeswarar Eraiyur is a small, ancient, renovated and beautifully maintained temple. A single Prakaram includes all the shrines and the sanctum sanctorum. The Temple pond is opposite the entrance. Eraiyur stands for Irai (God) Oor (place).
Holy Water (Theertham) – Temple pond
Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Vilwam (Aegle marmelos)
Thirugnanasambandar (7th century CE) has visited and stayed here at Dhagamtheertha Pureeswarar Eraiyur, but not sung his hymns. This place finds mention in Periya Puranam as Thirumaran Padi.
The Lord of Thirunelvayal Arathurai is said to have presented the Pearl Umbrella, Sivigai and Golden Emblem to Thirugnanasambandar here at Dhagamtheertha Pureeswarar Eraiyur. He is believed to have been given food by the Goddess and hence her name here is Annapurani. When he got hiccups while eating the lord created a pond and provided him with water and hence his name is Dhaagam Theertha Pureeswarar (the one quenched thirst). The pond is still nearby, obviously not in great shape.
Dhagamtheertha Pureeswarar Eraiyur is 20 kilometers southwest of Vriddhachalam on the Thittakudi road.
None locally. Closest would be Vriddhachalam.
