Kaanattumullur Temple is an east facing temple which has been completely renovated recently and has a 3 tier entrance Rajagopuram. The temple used to belong to a private family and the original brick temple was very badly damaged until about recently. Kaanattumullur Temple has an outer Prakaram and a small inner Prakaram for circumambulation. There is a temple pond opposite that needs attention. The Kollidam River runs a little way south of the Kaanattumullur Temple.

Sundaramoorthy Nayanar (8th Century CE) has rendered Thevaram Hymns for the Lord here at Kaanattumullur Temple. A stone inscription belonging to the period of Kopparakesarivarman Vikrama Chola (12th Century CE) mentions Kaanattumullur Temple as ‘Virudarasa Bayangara Valanattu Keezhkanattumulluragiya Thiruchitrambala Chaturvedi Mangalam’.
