Thirukazhippalai Palvannanadar Temple is an east facing temple with a 3 tier Rajagopuram at the entrance. The sanctum and all the shrines are situated in a single Prakaram. There is a large temple tank in the south. At the entrance to the lords shrine are Ganesha and Dhandayudhapani. The lingam is whitish in color with a flattish top and a small depression. A carving of the lord and his consort in standing posture is behind the main deity. it is said that the original temple was situated near the Kollidam river and was submerged. Later it was shifted and reinstated here at its present location.

Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundaramoorthy Nayanar (7th – 9th Century CE) have rendered Thevaram Hymns here at Thirukazhippalai Palvannanadar Temple. An old inscription found here mentions the arrangement to supply flowers to the temple.
Sage Valmiki is believed to have worshiped here at Thirukazhippalai Palvannanadar Temple. It is also said that the original temple was inundated with water and was shifted to its present location.
Thirukazhippalai Palvannanadar Temple is 5 km Southeast of Chidambaram.
