Kolanjiappar Manavalanallur is a small but popular temple. The Rajagopuram of this east facing temple is 5 tiered. Though the main deity is considered as a Swayambu, the lord has no form here and the Balipeedam in the sanctum sanctorum is considered the deity. Below this a stone Chakra with the 6 mantras of Lord Muruga is present.
Holy Water (Theertham) – Manimuthar River
Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Kolanji
Kolanjiappar Manavalanallur is considered to be very old and is also connected with the legend of Sundarar (8th Century CE).
Sundarar, when he visited Thirumudukundram, left without singing his hymns considering the temple to be too ancient and legendary for his limited capacity. Lord Muruga is said to have gone after him to the Kolanjee forest, robbed him and made him come back to sing. It is this Muruga who is considered to be present here at Kolanjiappar Manavalanallur.
Kolanjiappar Manavalanallur is 2.5 kilometers west of Vriddhachalam on the Veppur road.
