Chandrachoodeswara Hosur is a hill temple situated in the middle of the town offering a great view and pleasant time. The temple is east facing with south facing entrance and a 5 tier Rajagopuram. Built by the Hoysala kings Chandrachoodeswara Hosur exhibits wonderful sculptural and architectural skills.

History

Chandrachoodeswara Hosur is an ancient temple built by the Hoysala Kings.

Legend

An angel was hurt by an asura (demon) and she decided to undergo penance in Dhatchinapinakini river bed. As a boon for her penance Lord Siva gave darshan to her and she asked for siva’s mount, Nandhi as her figure. Lord Siva gave the boon too. In memory of this incident, the angel created this temple at Chandrachoodeswara Hosur for Lord Siva.The hill looks like a Nandhi when it is seen from a distance.

Directions

Chandrachoodeswara Hosur temple is in the middle of Hosur town on a hill and visible from all around. There are steps to climb up and a road that takes vehicles right up to the top. The entrance archway can be seen from the Chennai- Bangalore highway. As there are a lot of temples around Hosur, it would be ideal to stay here and visit all of them.
