Penneswarar Penneswaramaadam is a large temple situated beautifully on the banks of the Pennar River. The 7 tiered Rajagopuram is in the south at the entrance and is the tallest in Krishnagiri district . The temple faces east and has 2 Prakarams. The outer is Prakaram is spacious.

History

Penneswarar Penneswaramaadam Temple is a large temple built in 1188 ad by Kulothunga Cholan after his prayers were answered in winning a war. The Rajagopuram was built by Adhiyaman.

Goddess Parvati is said to have performed penance here at Penneswarar Penneswaramaadam. Parashurama is said to have prayed to Lord Shiva here at Penneswarar Penneswaramaadam to offset the sin he attained by killing his mother.
