Holy Water (Theertham) – Akashaganga
Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Vilvam (Aegle marmelos)
Chockanadar Thirumangalam dates back to the ancient days and a few kings are said to have built it, but the exact information is not available as of now.
A Vilvam and Neem tree are together in Chockanadar Thirumangalam, representing the Arthanareeswara form of the Lord, with a Vinayaka below who is revered as if sitting on their lap. The sacred Hindu symbol of wedlock, Thirumangalyam, was made out of gold here at Chockanadar Thirumangalam by the Devas for the lord and Meenakshi’s wedding in Madurai and the place was named Tirumangalyapuram which in later days has changed to Tirumangalam.
Chockanadar Thirumangalam is in the middle of Thirumangalam town, which is about 18 kilometers south west of Madurai.
