Thirukurakukka is a small temple on the banks of the Uppanar River. A single Prakaram houses all the shrines and the sanctum sanctorum.

History

Thirunavukkarasar (7th Century CE) has rendered Thevaram Hymns for the lord here at Thirukurakukka.

Legend

Hanuman was disappointed by Rama when he started worshiping another lingam while he had gone on the same quest and tried to destroy it with his tail. Enraged Lord Rama cursed him and said he could get relief by performing penance to Lord Shiva in Kanmapuram (Thalaignairu). Happy at the immense benevolence of Shiva by ridding him of the curse Hanuman installed a Lingam here at Thirukurakukka.

Thirukurakukka is about 10 Kilometers from Vaitheeswaran Kovil. Take the right after the Uppanar River Bridge at Pattavarthi tor each this temple.
