Varadanarayana Perumal Vadakalathur is a nice, small and beautiful temple located adjacent to a Lilypond which is also the Holy Tank of the temple. The lord is seen here in standing posture with his consorts Sreedevi and Bhoodevi. The Anjaneya idol is new and when immersed in milk, as per procedure before the installation, a rough representation of Anjaneya appeared on top of the milk. This has been photographed and can be seen in the following link which also provided us with information about this ancient temple – https://vrdn.jimdo.com/news/

The Kannangudi temple tower can be seen from here and we also learnt that the sound of its main bell can be heard here.

History

Varadanarayana Perumal Vadakalathur temple is reportedly 1300 years old, constructed during the late Pallava period. It seems to have been renovated 600 years later in Maratta and Nayaks period. The front tower suffered major damages in a severe cyclone in 1962. Some idols made of sandstone were unearthed here at Varadanarayana Perumal Vadakalathur which could have been replaced around 14th Century CE with the existing idols. The original temple had been built with bricks. Two broken stone inscriptions with Chakra seal (Aazhikkal) found here indicate the antiquity of the temple and mention grants made.
