Balasubramaniaswamy Thovalai is a small and beautiful hill temple. The temple is reached by climbing a flight of steps from the west side after crossing through a beautiful arch at the base. On the way up is a mandapam. The entrance to the temple on top is also from the west through another mandapam. The lord is facing east and the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum is from the east side. There is a large Kanda Sashti Mandapam on the north side of the temple on top of the hill. Lord Muruga is seen here in a standing posture as a little boy (Bala). There is a Krishna Temple opposite of Balasubramaniaswamy Thovalai. Further down in the Chekkagiri hills is another old Muruga temple. The village of Thovalai is well known for horticulture activities and its Jasmine Flowers.
