Annamar Kakkaveri is a north-facing temple that is located in a beautiful and impeccably maintained large campus. The entrance is through larges gates in the east and a spacious driveway. In front on the east side is a large and well-equipped dining hall and a wedding hall. The landscaping is very nice. The sanctum sanctorum is located on the west side of the campus with an entrance from the east side. The north-facing large and wide sanctum of the main deities and goddess is preceded by a beautiful new Maha Mandapam. Outside the prakaram is the shrine for Karuppanna Swamy and his Vahanas, two large and beautiful horse idols.

Annamar Kakkaveri is said to be an old temple. Historical information is not available as of now.

Legend

Periannan and Chinnannan are two brothers, Ponnar and Shankar respectively who are said to have lived and perished in a battle in the period between 990 – 1020 CE as per folklore. Many stories and plays have been written about their exploits including a film penned by the late Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Mr.M.Karunanidhi.

Directions

Annamar Kakkaveri is about 6 kilometers southeast of Rasipuram and can be reached by taking a right towards the south just after crossing Kakkaveri Village.
