Choleeswarar Oottathur is not as old as the nearby Sutharathineswarar’s original Temple. King Rajaraja constructed Choleeswarar Oottathur and he used to visit the temple often. The place was called Chozheeswaram. Several stone inscriptions dating back to the Chola period are found here.
Rajaraja Chola’s visits to Choleeswarar Oottathur is believed to have been the reason for him to have stumbled upon the buried remains of the Sutharathineswarar Temple itself. Hence the Choleeswarar Oottathur is considered equally holy and important.
Choleeswarar Oottathur is in the Agaram road, and a kilometer south of Sutharathineswarar Temple.
