Panchanadeeswarar Kurumbalur was built in 10th century CE by Veeratarajan as per stone inscriptions found here.
King Veeratarajan who ruled here was a frequent visitor to the Thiruvaiyaru temple. When floods prevented him from going there Vyagiryadhar, a Sidhdhar, who is said to have lived as a leopard (Kurumpuli) here is said to have instructed King Veeratarajan to build this temple – Panchanadeeswarar Kurumbalur. Hence the name of the place is also Kurumpuliyur, later corrupted to Kurumbalur. Arjuna is believed to have performed pooja here.
Panchanadeeswarar Kurumbalur is about 7 kilometers west of Perambalur on the Thuraiyur road.
