Kothandaramar Oottathur is a large and ancient east facing temple with an immaculate stone gateway. This gateway has many beautiful carvings on it. Kothandaramar Oottathur has 2 Prakarams. The inner Prakaram houses all the deities and is surrounded by a high wall about 10 feet tall. The outer Prakaram is wide and is enclosed by another huge wall about 10-12 feet tall. The mantapams in the inside Prakaram have some exquisitely carved pillars. There are several stone inscriptions and symbols of fish carved here. The main deity of Kothandaramar is with Lakshmana and Sita.
