Mahadevar Kattalai is a beautiful small east facing temple which is set amidst wonderful scenery and a peaceful location. The entrance is through a doorway in the east and a single Prakaram encloses the sanctum sanctorum. Though the sanctum niches are empty, there are some beautiful carvings on top indicating the respective deities. The base and walls of the sanctum sanctorum are of stone and the vimaanam has obviously been reconstructed in recent times. A small temple tank is in front of the temple.

Mahadevar Kattalai is in a remote location 3.5 kilometers east of Muttaikadu, which is 4.5 kilometers north of Thucalay.
