Ekanthalingeswarar Azhwarthoppu is an east-facing temple with an entrance through a 3 tiered gopuram on the south side. A 5 tiered Rajagopuram is on the east side. The temple is amidst lush groves on the north banks of the Tamiraparani River. There are 2 Prakarams. The inner Prakaram is completely covered and has mandapams in front of the sanctum sanctorum and cloistered mandapams all around. The temple and the area are also called Kantheeswaram and were earlier known as Navalingapuram.
