Ramalingaswamy Arungulam is a small east-facing temple situated on the south banks of the Tamiraparani river. The entrance is through a small gate in the east. The temple is at a small height and reached by a flight of steps. A single Prakaram houses the sanctum sanctorum and the shrines. A 6 feet tall Veera Raghava Perumal idol is installed in a separate shrine. The unique aspect here is that facing him in front of is Jatayu whereas Garuda is kept on one side. The Tamiraparani river flows south of the Ramalingaswamy Arungulam temple and has a bathing ghat. This is Jatayu Theertham and is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy yourself peacefully.

Legend

Ramalingaswamy Arungulam is believed to have been installed and worshiped Lord Rama. This place is considered the Jatayu Moksha spot. There are two Perumal temples here with the connected legend. Lord Rama is believed to have found Jatayu here with his wings chopped off and performed the last rites for him here.

Ramalingaswamy Arungulam is about 5 kilometers northeast of Tirunelveli town. Ramalingaswamy Arungulam can be reached from the north by-pass road by taking the immediate right after Tamiraparani bridge. Ramalingaswamy Arungulam can also be reached from the bypass road coming from Kanyakumari by taking a left immediately after crossing the Tamiraparani bridge at a place called Naranammalpuram. There are 2 Perumal temples also nearby connected with the same legend as this temple.
