Thirunageswarar Nanguneri is a small east-facing temple with 2 Prakarams. The entrance is from the south side. On the west side of the entrance is the small temple tank. A long corridor leads into the inner Prakaram. The outer Prakaram is accessible from the sides of the corridor. The Amman shrine faces you as you enter from the south. The Lord’s Sanctum Sanctorum faces east. There is a locked gate in the east towards which are the Balipeedam, Flagstaff, and Nandi. As per Tamiraparani Mahatmayam (to be clarified) Thirunageswarar Nanguneri is considered as one of the Pancha (five) Aasana Sthalams, the others being Satyavagheeswarar (Kalakkad), Vazhudeeswarar (Erawadi), Nageswarar (Nanguneri), Manonmaneeswarar (Vijayaranyam), and Ramalingeswarar (Shenbagaramanallur).
