Sunaikanda Lingeswarar Edirkottai is a small east-facing temple situated in an open Prakaram. The entrance is through a gate in the south. A Mahamandapam and Ardha Mandapam is in front of the sanctum sanctorum of the main deity. The goddess shrine is separate. There is a small tank inside, called Sunai(natural spring), on the north side of the Prakaram.

Sunaikanda Lingeswarar Edirkottai is said to be an old dilapidated temple that has been renovated completely in recent times. Historical information is not available as of now.

The Shiva Lingam here at Sunaikanda Lingeswarar was discovered in the tank (Sunai) and thus the name is so.
