Sage Brigu was in penance here for the darshan of the lord. A Chola king arrived here with his army while hunting and disturbed the sage who in turn cursed him to roam with a lion’s head. The king apologized and sough relief from the curse. He was told to have bath in the Vettar River and pray to the lord here. Lord Vishnu on his mount Garuda and Lord Muruga on his mount Peacock appeared under the holy Vanni tree and blessed both. The king was relieved of the curse.
