Sankara Narayanar Nattalam is a small east facing Kerala style temple with 2 Prakarams. The outer walls are fitted with lamps all around with brick structures and tiled red tiles for the roofs. Large idols of Jayan and Vijayan, door keepers of Lord Vishnu are found at the entrance to the inner Prakaram. The Sanctum Sanctorum is circular below with a Dravidian style Vimaana. The main deity is a merger of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu and hence the name Shankara (Shiva) Narayana (Vishnu). The inner Prakaram has covered and elevated platforms in the sides with lamp maidens sculpted on the pillars. The common temple tank for Sankara Narayanar Nattalam and the Shiva Temple is behind the temple in the west.

Legend

Sankara Narayanar Nattalam is in front of the Nattalam Shiva Temple which is the last of the 12 temple of Shivalaya Ottam. It is only after the devotees visit and have darshan of Lord Shankaranarayana at this temple is their fasting and run considered complete.

Directions

Sankara Narayanar Nattalam is 4.5 kilometers in the Marthandam to Colachel road. As of now you have to get down in the main road and cut across the 4 lane highway under construction and proceed for about 300 meters to reach the Sankaranarayana Perumal temple. Behind this is Thirunattalam temple.
