Ilayaperumal Eraiyamangalam is an east-facing hill temple. The steps to climb start from the north side of the hill. The hill is more or less east to west rising to a height of about 200 meters. At the base are the shrines for the guardian deity Malai Kaavalan, Anjaneya, and Vinayaka. The climb is gradual through well laid out wide steps that can take a large crowd going two ways. The entire climb up is through covered steps. A rock pond is in the middle of the climb. Around this pond, an uncovered and steep pathway takes off south and reaches the temple on its west side entrance. The main pathway enters the temple on its eastern side. Naagar and bird idols are at the entrance on top facing the sanctum sanctorum. A stone Dwajasthambam is in front of the new large, granite floored mandapam that is open on the sides, with colorfully painted pillars and floral patterns on the ceiling. This is followed by an Ardha Mandapam and the sanctum sanctorum. The main deity Ilayaperumal is a tall idol seen standing with his consorts Sreedevi and Bhoodevi. On the northwest side of the hill is a large lake called Perumal Hill Lake. The temple also has two beautiful temple chariots stationed below.
