History

Sundararaja Perumal Paramakudi was established by the Saurashtra people who settled in these parts 450 years ago under the patronage of the Ramanathapuram Kings. Initially, there was a Gopala Madam which was later developed as a temple with the installation of the deity.

Legend

The priest in the old Gopala Madam once had a dream wherein Lord Vishnu appeared and informed him of the idol lying buried in Vaigai River. The priest excavated in the said area and found the idols of the main deity along with his consorts and installed them here at Sundararaja Perumal Paramakudi.
