Yogaramar Padavedu is a large temple that had been completely lost over time. is an ancient temple that was discovered buried. The cause was taken up by TVS Group who formed a trust and renovated this and several other temples in the area. The campus is large, clean, and beautifully maintained. The temple faces east and the entrance is through a 3 tiered Rajagopuram. A spacious Prakaram houses the shrines and the large and imposing Sanctum Sanctorum. The Lord and his consort are seen seated in Veerasana Throne under the Pushpaka Vimaanam (the vehicle used to bring back Sita from Sri Lanka) with the Chinmudra on the left hand and right hand on his chest. They both are carved out of a single stone. Lord Rama is seen without weapons as he is in the guru position enlightening Hanuman, seated in the side with palm leaves, on the meaning and purpose of the Vedas. Lakshmana is seen standing with a Bow and Arrows. There is a circumambulatory corridor inside around the Sanctum Sanctorum.

History

Yogaramar Padavedu is an ancient temple that was dilapidated and reconstructed in recent times. There are many stone inscriptions around the walls of the Sanctum Sanctorum. The details of them are not available as of now. The place was called Shenbagaranyam in the ancient days.

Legend

Sage Valmiki’s first verse in the Ramayana describes the Meditational of Lord Rama. Yogaramar Padavedu and the other two temples in Nedungunam and Raghunathasamudram, where Lord Rama is seen in Yoga Posture is said to represent this quality.

Yogaramar Padavedu is about 22 kilometers west of Aarani and can be reached from Polur, Vellore and Arcot also.
