Venkatachalapathi Nambipuram is an east-facing temple that is in a bad state, particularly the prakaram and the dilapidated Vimaanam. The Prakaram is overgrown with weeds and the compound walls are breaking down. The temple is entered through a gate in the east. This is followed by a Balipeedam with Naagar idols around and a Garuda Mandapam. A covered platform leads into the Mahamandapam that has some carved pillars. This is followed by an Ardha Mandapam and the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Lord. The Vaippar River flows east of the temple.

Venkatachalapathi Nambipuram is an old temple as is evident from the inscriptions on the Garuda Mandapam and steps. The details of these inscriptions are not available as of now. We were informed by the caretakers that the temple dates back to the Vijayanagar period. Venkatachalapathi Nambipuram temple is in a dilapidated condition requiring urgent attention from well-wishers. Interested people can contact Srinivasa Ramanuja Das on 8220420137 to perform service and participate in the renovation. Ettaiyyapuram is about 45 kilometers from Thoothukudi on the Madurai Highway. It is about 16 kilometers east of Kovilpatti. About 15 kilometers after Ettaiyapuram, on the Madurai Highway and before crossing the Vaippar River Bridge, take a right. Venkatachalapathi Nambipuram is 4 kilometers in this small road running on the west side of the Vaippar River. Straight down from this temple is an old Shiva Temple that has been renovated recently.
