Varadaraja Perumal, Kalakkad is a small east-facing temple with an entrance gateway in the east. A large courtyard with Balipeedam, Flagstaff, and Garuda is in front of the entrance to the single Prakaram. The Prakaram has many trees and flowering plants. The main deity is about 6 feet tall and along with his consorts are beautiful stucco idols infused with herbs. Hence no ablution is performed on the idols. A temple tank is a little way in front of the temple.

Varadaraja Perumal Kalakkad is an ancient temple, probably as old as the nearby and famous Shiva Temple. Historical information is not available as of now.

Varadaraja Perumal Kalakkad is 11 kilometers west of Nanguneri and 20 kilometers south of Cheranmahadevi. The temple is on the western side of the village and a little way behind the Shiva Temple.
