Varadaraja Perumal Kunnathur is a small east-facing temple with an entrance gateway in the south. A single prakaram houses the sanctum sanctorum and the shrines. There is a Mahamandapam and Artha mandapam before the sanctum sanctorum. The sanctum is a beautiful structure with many carvings and ornamental patterns.

Varadaraja Perumal Kunnathur is about 10 kilometers southwest of Tirunelveli and situated at the base of the Kunnathur Hill. Before this is the famous Venkatesa Perumal Temple and after this is a Navakailayam temple. This place is called Keezha Tiruvenkatanathapuram.
