Thiruputkuzhi is an east facing temple with 2 Prakarams and a 2 tier Rajagopuram at the east. A large temple tank (Jadayu Theertham) is just outside the entrance. The temple is situated near the Vegavati River. The main deity has Jadayu on his lap and godesses Sreedevi and Bhoodevi are in left and right changed positions. The Horse Vahana (mount) of the lord here has parts which move like a real horse.

Thiruputkuzhi is an ancient temple with many stone inscriptions. One refers to this temple as Poretru Perumal Temple. Thirumangai Azhwar (8th Century CE) has rendered Mangalasasanam here at Thiruputkuzhi. Ramanujar and Manavala Mamunigal have also rendered hymns in praise of this lord.
Jadayu, the eagle king, is said to have fallen here while fighting with Ravana when he was abducting Seetha. Lord Rama discovered him here, took him on his lap where he died. Lord Rama is said to have created the Jadayu Theertham here and also performed the final rites for Jadayu.
Thiruputkuzhi is about 10 kilometers west of Kancheepuram on the Chennai-Bangalore highway.
