History

Pei Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar (5th to 10th Century CE) have rendered Mangalasasanam here at Thiruvelukkai.

Legend

The lord is believed to have appeared in his Narasimha Avatar for Sage Brigu here. Another legend is that after killing Hiranyakashipu he was chasing away the Asura’s soldiers and he is believed to have found this place serene and sat down here at Thiruvelukkai to rest.
