Muruganadeeswarar Mambakkam is an ancient small east facing temple with entrance gateway in the south. A small but close gate leads to the temple pond situated east of the temple. A single Prakaram houses all the shrines. The upper portions of the Sanctum sanctorum are constructed with lime and brick.

Stone inscriptions are found at the base of the sanctum sanctorum of Muruganadeeswarar Mambakkam indicating it could go back several hundred years. Fish images in the ceiling inside indicate that the temple could have been served by Pandya Kings.
