Pathangeeswarar Palur is a large east facing temple with entrance from the east through a gateway. This is followed by a spacious outer Prakaram. The inner prakaram is entered through a 2 tiered Gopuram after crossing the Balipeedam, Flag Staff and a large Nandi. Lord Shanmuga is on your left facing north before entering the sanctum sanctorum. The Shanmuga idol is about 6 feet tall in a separate shrine and his peacock mount faces him from outside in the Prakaram. the goddess shrine is separate and east facing. The idol of the goddess is about 5-6 feet tall from the base. Most of the idols here at Pathangeeswarar Palur except the main deity are large in size. A Ganesha shrine is outside in the road facing the lord. His mount here is the Elephant and not the usual Mouse. A large temple tank is present south of the temple near the railway line.

History

Pathangeeswarar Palur is an ancient Chola Era temple. Stone inscriptions around the sanctum sanctorum indicate the antiquity of this beautiful temple.

Directions

Pathangeeswarar Palur is about 11 Kilometers west of Singaperumal Kovil and about 11 kilometers northwest of Chingleput in the Walajabad Road. The temple is visible from the Palur Railway Station. You have to cross the level crossing to reach if you are going from Chingleput side.
