Vadavaitheeswarar Sastrambakkam is an ancient temple which was lost through time. It is believed that the original old temple goes back to the Pallava Era. During that time it was a center for Sastras and Horoscopes and many Brahmins used to live here. The remains of this temple and the Lingam were discovered by a mad youngster in the thick wild growth. He started worshiping the Lord, has now recovered and is driving an Autorickshaw and lives with his family in Chingleput. We came to know that some of the stone inscriptions were lost. From then onwards the present temple was constructed gradually.
It is believed that Sidhdhars come to worship the Lord here at Vadavaitheeswarar Sastrambakkam in the form of birds and insects. The Lord is believed to have cured the eye ailment of Sage Viswamitra here at Vadavaitheeswarar Sastrambakkam.
