Yoga Hayagrivar Chettipunyam is an old temple which throngs with students and parents wishing for good marks and education. The sanctum walls are filled with students’ examination hall ticket numbers and desired or received marks despite requests not to spoil the walls. The temple itself is a small one and the Prasadam (offerings to the god) sold here are very good. The local women are seen here outside the temple in the narrow streets selling local agricultural produce. A temple pond is behind and west of the Yoga Hayagrivar Chettipunyam temple.
Holy Water (Theertham) – Temple Tank
Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Azhinjal (Angolam) – Alangium salviifolium
The original temple was that of Varadaraja Perumal which is more than 500 years old. It is understood from the Government Gazette at Arcot that later in 1848 the idols of Yoga Hayagrivar and Devanathaswamy were brought here by Rao Sahib Rangachar from Thiruvahindrapuram near Cuddalore for safekeeping from an invasion.
It is believed that Hayagrivar is the Lord of the Vedas and hence blesses students with good education and hence Yoga Hayagrivar Chettipunyam is mostly crowded, particularly before the examinations.
About 2.5 kilometers after Singaperumal Kovil and before climbing the bridge to Paranur take a right and drive on for about another 2.5 kilometers to reach Yoga Hayagrivar Chettipunyam.
