Varadaraja Perumal Chunambakkam is an east facing temple situated in a single Prakaram. The entrance is through a gateway in the east followed by a large courtyard with the stone Dwajasthambam, Balipeedam and, a beautiful Garuda Mandapam. There are lots of flowering plants in the courtyard area. The inner Prakaram is entered through a doorway. This Prakaram is completely covered. Straight ahead is the sanctum sanctorum of the main deity where he is seen in a standing posture with Sreedevi and Bhoodevi. On the left are the north-facing shrines of Anjaneya followed by Lakshmi Narayana with consorts. Behind the sanctum sanctorum are the shrines of goddess Perundevi Thaayar, Azhwars, and Aandal, all facing east. On the northeast side are the shrines of Kann Ugandha Perumal and Pattabisheka Rama, facing south.
