Pachaivannar Kancheepuram is considered as importabnt as Pavazhavannar Temple and must be as old as that temple which goes back to the Medieval Chola period.

Sage Marichi’s questions about the need for Rama Avatar were answered by the lord here who appeared in a green form. Marichi also requested the honor of bearing the lord on himself just like Adisesha. The lord appeared as a Jyothi (sacred light) on top of the sage’s head. The Jyothi also has another story which is connected with Goddess Saraswathi trying to create hindrance to the Yaga of Brahma. Vishnu appeared as a Jyothi and helped perform the Yaga.
