Going past the doors into the Mantapam Lord Muruga on his peacock mount and consorts, facing north, is on your left. This is a large and beautiful idol about 4 feet tall. To your left is a large shrine facing north dedicated to Saint Vallalar (1823 – 1874 CE). Passing these shrine you come to the Gajalakshmi Shrine and the temple tank to the north. Just before the Gajalakshmi shrine is the temple tree, Palmyra Palm, with lot of little cradles hung on it by devotees desiring children. History

Nallinakeswarar Ezhichur is said to have been built by the Cholas and later developed by the Vijayanagara Kings. During this time (15th Century CE) this temple and another one at Vennagaram were presented to Shri Vyasachala Mahadevendra Saraswathy the 54th pontiff of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt. This is learnt from stone inscriptions and Copper Plates in possession of the Kanchi Mutt and also verified recently by the Archaeological Survey of India. Once upon a time, Nallinakeswarar Ezhichur is said to have had a Rajagopuram, lot of patronages and was a thriving place. The temple was in bad shape till some time back when it was noticed by the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and with the support and involvement of locals and well wishers taken up and renovated.

Legend

The holy tank here at Nallinakeswarar Ezhichur is believed to have been created by Surya, the Sun God when he came to pray to the Lord. Nallinakkam in Tamil means good things, habits, speech and performance of good deeds to all and thus the name of the Lord here is Nallinakeswarar.
