Veerateswarar Keezhpadappai is a medium sized temple undergoing renovations as in 2019. The east facing temple has an entrance gateway from the east and has a single Prakaram housing all the shrines and the Sanctum Sanctorum. A temple tank is present west of the temple a little distance away. The goddess in standing posture is visible fully only when you bend down and see. Devotees pray to her first before seeing the Lord here at Veerateswarar Keezhpadappai. An idol of Chandran worshiping the Lord is seen here in the front Mantapam. This place, Padappai is said to be where flower gardens used to exist and flowers were regularly exported in the olden days.

Holy Water (Theertham) – Temple tank

Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Mango (Mangifera indica)

History

Veerateswarar Keezhpadappai is one of the 108 temples renovated and consecrated by Nandi Varma Pallava simultaneously on the same day. Thirugnanasambandar (7th Century CE) has mentioned this temple in one of his Hymns, thus this is one of the Vaippu Sthalams.

Legend

Veerateswarar Keezhpadappai is a secondary Veeratta temple next to the eight in the first line where Lord Shiva is believed to have destroyed demons and others. The Lingam here is believed to have been installed and worshiped by Chandran to get relief from Daksha who gave his 27 daughters (considered celestial stars) in marriage to him whereas he paid attention only to one, Rohini. Guru Puja for Saivite Saints Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar are performed here grandly each year with processions for them on their respective star days on Palanquin for the former and Elephant mount for the latter.
